Bears are mammals that belong to the family Ursidae. They can be as small as 1.5 m long and about 27 kg (the sun bear) to as big as 2.4 m long and more than 450 kg (the polar bear). They’re found throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

There are eight species: Asiatic black bears (also called moon bears), brown bears (which include grizzly bears), giant pandas, North American black bears, polar bears, sloth bears, spectacled bears (also called Andean bears), and sun bears.

Bears have short tails and excellent sense of smell. They’re typically solitary, except for mothers with cubs. On average, bears can live up to 25 years in the wild and 50 in captivity.

During winter, when food is scarce, most bears have an effective survival solution: hibernation, a physical state in which the heart rate, body temperature, metabolism, and respiration is lowered.

Bears are big and powerful animals, which could provide competition to lions in getting a title of animals’ king. A bear was often honored among people of ancient civilizations ages ago – the animal was a symbol of strength, power and protectiveness.

There are 8 species of them: Asiatic, Black, Brown, Polar, Panda, Sloth, Spectacled and Sun. Every group has its own sub-species. Bears are mammals, because they have a spine, fur skin and feed milk to their cubs. Besides, they’re warm-blooded. They are great and severe hunters, but can be also omnivorous. They eat meat, fish, berries, honey, fruits, insects and other thing they can find.

Actually, these animals are considered to be very dangerous animals, especially when one of them walks flat footed like humans in front of you. Indeed, they can be really aggressive when they are hungry, wake up after a long-term denning, or if somebody tries to offend them or their cubs. However, bears try to hide in woods and be imperceptible. These animals are very intelligent, docile and solitary. People couldn’t make bears domestic but learned to tame them – sometimes in circus
